    Service Overview

    What This Service Covers

    What It Is

Garden clearance is the process of removing unwanted vegetation, debris, structures, and waste from gardens and outdoor spaces. This includes cutting back overgrown bushes, shrubs, and hedges; removing trees and stumps; clearing brambles, ivy, and ground cover; dismantling sheds, fences, and decking; and removing all green waste and rubbish from site. At Digger T, we use machinery and manual techniques to clear gardens of any size and condition across Essex and East London.

    Who It's For

Homeowners with overgrown or neglected gardens who want to reclaim their outdoor space. Estate agents and property managers preparing properties for sale or rental. Landlords clearing gardens between tenancies. Developers clearing residential plots before redevelopment. Anyone who has inherited or purchased a property with an unusable garden.

    When You Need It

You need garden clearance when your garden has become overgrown beyond what you can manage with hand tools. When you're preparing a garden for landscaping or a building project. When a property is being prepared for sale and the garden needs to look presentable. When you need structures like sheds, decking, or fencing removed. When green waste and rubble have accumulated and need proper disposal.

    Why Professional Help Matters

Overgrown gardens aren't just unsightly — they harbour pests, damage structures, and reduce property value. Japanese knotweed, invasive bamboo, and established ivy can cause structural damage to walls and foundations. Accumulated waste can contain hazardous materials. Professional garden clearance is faster, safer, and ensures all waste is disposed of legally through licensed carriers. Attempting to clear a heavily overgrown garden by hand takes days or weeks of back-breaking work — we complete most jobs in a day or two with machinery.

    Why This Matters

What Happens If You Get This Wrong

An overgrown garden doesn't just look bad — it creates problems that spread, get worse, and become increasingly expensive to fix the longer you leave them.

    • !Invasive species like Japanese knotweed, horsetail, and bamboo spreading beyond your boundary into neighbouring properties, creating legal liability and requiring specialist eradication costing thousands.
    • !Established ivy and climbing plants penetrating brickwork, mortar joints, and roof tiles, causing structural damage that requires expensive masonry repairs.
    • !Overgrown vegetation providing cover for rats, foxes, and other pests that establish breeding populations near your home — creating health risks and further property damage.
    • !Property value reduced by £10,000–£30,000+ due to an unkempt, overgrown garden — the first thing buyers see and the easiest reason to make a lower offer.
    • !Boundary disputes arising from overgrown hedges and trees that have encroached onto neighbouring land, potentially requiring legal resolution.
    • !Fly-tipping fines and prosecution if garden waste is disposed of illegally — even if you hired someone who dumped it without your knowledge, the waste can be traced back to you.

    Our Process

    How We Deliver Results

    01

    Site Visit & Assessment

We visit your garden, assess the scale of clearance needed, check for invasive species, identify any structures to be removed, and provide a clear, all-inclusive quote. No surprises.

    02

    Vegetation Clearance

We systematically clear all unwanted vegetation using a combination of machinery (excavators, chippers) and hand tools. Trees and shrubs are cut, stumps are removed, and ground cover is stripped back to bare soil.

    03

    Structure Removal

Old sheds, fences, decking, raised beds, and other structures are dismantled and removed. Concrete bases and hardstanding are broken out if required.

    04

    Waste Removal & Recycling

All green waste, rubble, and rubbish is loaded and removed from site using licensed waste carriers. Green waste is recycled at composting facilities. Recyclable materials are separated.

    05

    Site Levelling & Handover

The cleared garden is levelled and left in a clean, usable condition. If you're proceeding with landscaping or building work, we prepare the ground accordingly.

    In-Depth Guide

    Everything You Need to Know

    What Garden Clearance Includes

A full garden clearance involves removing all unwanted vegetation — shrubs, hedges, trees (subject to TPO checks), brambles, ivy, ground cover, and weeds. We cut everything back to ground level and remove root systems where required using excavator attachments or stump grinders.

We also remove garden structures — sheds, greenhouses, pergolas, old fencing and posts, decking, raised bed timbers, and concrete bases. Non-organic waste such as old furniture, rubbish, and building materials is cleared alongside green waste. The entire garden is left clean, level, and ready for its next use.

    Invasive Species Management

Japanese knotweed is the most well-known invasive plant in the UK. It can grow through concrete, damage foundations, and significantly impact property value. Mortgage lenders may refuse to lend on properties with active knotweed. If we identify knotweed during our assessment, we advise on specialist treatment — usually a multi-year herbicide programme or excavation and disposal at licensed facilities.

Other invasive species we encounter include giant hogweed (which causes severe burns on skin contact), Himalayan balsam, and invasive bamboo varieties. Each requires a specific management approach. We identify these during our survey and advise on the best course of action before clearance begins.

    Tree and Stump Removal

We remove trees of most sizes using chainsaw felling, sectional dismantling, or excavator-assisted removal depending on the tree size and site constraints. Before removing any tree, we check for Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) with the local council and assess whether the tree is in a conservation area.

Stumps are removed using excavator-mounted stump grinders or by complete excavation of the root system. Grinding is usually sufficient for garden re-use, while full root extraction is necessary if the area is to be built on. We advise on the most appropriate method based on your plans for the space.

    Waste Disposal and Recycling

Garden clearance generates significant volumes of waste. We manage this responsibly — green waste is taken to licensed composting facilities where it's processed into soil conditioner and mulch. Timber from structures is recycled where condition allows. Metal (fencing, hardware) goes for scrap recycling.

All waste is transported using licensed waste carriers. Waste transfer notes documenting the type, quantity, carrier, and destination of each load are provided to you for your records. This ensures full legal compliance and traceability — protecting you from any liability.
